August 2011 Favorites.

Hello Lacquered Lovelies and Makeup Fanatics,
Wow this past year has really flown by and the months seem to be only 2 weeks. I have almost 5 months until I am the big 21, I am so excited. I am also very excited for the up coming holidays.

This month has been really confusing. Two birthdays and me working for the last time of the summer. I have been back and forth all summer long.

This month I have really tried to do nails, makeup and other things but I guess it was kind of put on the back burner. I still did my nails but it wasn't every day like it normally is.

You're Plastic...Cold, shiny, hard plastic!!!

Hello Lacquered Lovelies,
I can't believe I have done this for my third time this week, SQUEEE that makes me super happy. Now lets see if I can do 30 Untireds in September. I absolutely love Pink Wednesday's!!!

Today I am wearing a pink base color with little blue and white acrylic flowers painted on my nails, along with some dots. This style of manicure is and will continue to be a favorite on my fingers.

What I Did
I painted my nails with a medium sort of muted pink color with a dotting tool (tooth pick in my case) I added 5 little dots to represent flowers, I repeated this a couple of times on each nail. In the middle of each flower I mixed blue and white and got a baby blue color and went back in and dotted these a little closer to the centers. Next I applied one single dot of white in the middles of all of the flowers. On the middle of the nail there was just too much pink showing through so I put some dots getting smaller and bigger.

What I Used
One coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat
Two coats of Finger Paints Rose Patina
Blue and white Acrylic
One coat of INM Out the Door

Enjoy yourself

Jelly Sandwich Thing

Hello Lacquered Lovelies,
I have seen many do what is called a Jelly Sandwich, this is where you take a very sheer nail polish and apply a coat of it and then add a coat of glitter and then put the sheer coat over it again. The glitter is actually sandwiched in the center of the sheer polish. I have seen this done several times with different colors and different polishes.

I decided to give it a go. It came out really well. I like that you can barely see the true colors of the glitter it is all tinted to this red color.

What I did
I applied three coats of my sheer "jelly" polish to my fingers, Then I added one coat of the glitter. Finally I used one more coat of the "jelly" polish to my nails.

What I used
Beauty Secrets Base Coat
OPI Big Hair...Big Nails
Wet N' Wild Party Of Five Glitters
INM Northern Lights (not shaken)

Enjoy yourself

Beginning of Autumn.

Hello Lacquered Lovelies, and makeup fanatics

While August comes to end our summer is starting to finally calm and become a bit cooler. I am looking forward to seeing all the lovely colors that come with fall. I love the two in between seasons (Spring and Fall). I don't look forward to what comes after however.
For this look I used a trio of pigments ranging from a purple/brown color to a dark grey. I also added punches of gold and rose gold. I didn't use my typical black mascara and eyeliner although in the picture it looks black but it is actually brown. I can definitely see myself doing this in the fall a lot because it is a very gorgeous look.

What I did was primed my eyes with Urban Decay Primer Potion. Then I patted a gorgeous pinky purple color all over my lids. In the crease I added a darker pinky purple color that has a bit darker brown hues added to it, I blended this out with a red color. In the inner crease and closer to my tear ducts I added a gold pop and blended it into the darker browny color. In my inner tear duct I applied a light rose/gold color. Below my eye I added that gold color I used in the inner crease. Then I used my mascara and eyeliner. For my lips I finished with a darker pink/nude neutral color.

Haul and New Hair

Hello Lacquered Lovelies,
I really should save all the new polishes I buy or get sent for one big haul like every two weeks out of the month or so. I really don't like posting a million hauls but I don't ever think that I will buy more and then 12 or so more polishes pop into my hands, I have a problem.
Today I made a trip to Ross to see what kind of Color Club sets they have because I have heard they carry the sets there for fairly cheap. I ended picking up 4 mini Color Club polishes sadly they don't have names and I can't find the packaging, I think my boyfriend accidently threw away the package SIGH. Anyway their is a dark purply grey color that has purple, blue, and silver sparkles, Then there is a plain silver color, a very nude pink color,  then a dusty light lilac color. I was searching for more when I ran across one single Essie called Forever Young which is a bright red, I have so many reds it isn't even funny but I can use the others for frankens now.
Then I went to Walgreens because I knew they were having a sale on their Wet N' Wild nail polishes (or anything else that is originally $1.99). While I was there I picked up Party of Five Glitters, Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire, and FuchsiaRama. Then I was browsing their Sinful Colors display to see if they had any of the Adventure Island  Collection, sadly no they didn't but I may check the other Walgreens by my house. I would be really mad if I can't get these colors.  I did pick up Nirvana, Savage, and Soul Mate.
Sometime last week I picked up John Frieda's Foam Hair Dye in a deep red color and I took it to my sisters house and she dyed my hair for me. Let me say that foam hair dye is really weird and it claims not to be patchy but it is. I have to dye my hair again.

I think September is going to be a month of 30 Untried Nail Polishes, maybe even more. Look for that on Thursday

Naked Nails

Hello Lacquered Lovelies,

I did a post on my naked nails around the 3rd of August, I think I should keep up with them by doing naked nails around the first of the month and maybe on the 14th or 15th of each month... Who knows, we will see.

My nails were actually cut around the 11th and they were all the way cut off. So two weeks of growth isn't too bad. They are starting to peal on my right middle finger. My right thumb nail is a lot shorter than the other one which is going to drive me crazy, I am going to file the other one down here soon.
I am happy to say that they aren't feeling as weak as usual and look a lot healthier. I kind of wish they were stronger but that will come in time.

Hottie the Secret Peri-Wink-Le.

Hello Lacquered Lovelies,

Today I am wearing borrowed polish, the sisters <3 I love her. This week I decided to do something really easy because I am around little kids. Also we are going to the Fair which could be hard on my nails.
Basically all I have on is a blue through out my whole nails and one glitter accent nail. Sorry I only have one picture, photo capturing at my sisters can be a little difficult.

What I used
Beauty Secrets Base Coat
China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le
Sinful Colors Hottie on my ring.
Beauty Secrets Top Coat

What I did
2 Coats of CG SP
2 Coats of SC Hottie on my ring finger

OPI San Tan-tonio

OPI's San Tan-tonio was released with the Texas Collection which was released for Spring/Summer of 2011. I actually got this polish clearanced out for $3.18 which was a total steal. I suggest you always check your clearance baskets. OPI in America is usually $8.50 and can be found at Ulta, Trade Secret, and some Salon Supply Stores. You can sometimes find it in certain drugstores.

San Tan-tonio is a pale tan color that is almost a nude on my fingers. It is a cream finish which is my all time favorite. This polish is opaque in two to three coats. It is kind of reminds me of the "sorbets" that OPI also released in the Texas Collection. When the polish is dry it is super shiny almost as if you don't need a top coat.

I am sure this polish will be great for the warmer parts of fall or for the more "sophisticated" days in fall and winter. I could also see this all year round.

Nail of the Day Shocking Voltage.

Another borrowed nail polish from my sister since I am here. I don't really have as many resources here as I do there so I decided to do something simple and something you have all seen before. I love the shine to this my sisters top coat is Beauty Secrets Fast Dry, I may need to get the small version.

What I did
I started with a base of the lighter pink and then once it dried I went in and added the darker"pink" to the tips. I didn't add any stripes this time like I thought I would. I am liking this duo

What I used
-One coat of Beauty Secrets Top coat because she doesn't have a base coat
-Two coats of China Glaze's Pink Voltage
-One coat of China Glaze Purple Panic
-Two coats of Beauty Secrets Top Coat

Yay for my second Pink Wednesday.

Enjoy yourself

China Glaze's Turned Up Turquoise

China Glaze Turned Up
TurquoiseWow is all I can say. China Glaze's Turned Up Turquoise absolutely amazing. This was actually my second China Glaze ever.
Bottom
Turned Up Turquoise (TUT) was released with the Wow Factor collection in I want to say 2008 but has been made a part of their permanent line along with a lot the other 5 colors ( Shocking Pink, Pink Voltage, Purple Panic, In The Lime Light, and Orange Knock Out, all of which I would love to get to complete the collection).
Sunlight
Sunlight with Flash
This polish can be a little patchy or difficult to apply but I have found that if you load the brush up really well and work with slow long swipes rather than fast you will get it to apply. This polish will dry matte or as I have heard others say satin. I suggest using two coats. With matte's or satin finishes the wear time is very short and chipping is most likely going to happen. What I would do is put a top coat on and then let that dry then put a matte (if I had one I would) top coat on top of that to ensure wear time.
Lamp (Top Coat on half of the nail)

I definitely don't mind this polish although I wish that matte finishes wouldn't chip as easily. In fact I wish they would adhere to the nail more than it does.

Enjoy yourself
XOXO

Nail Of the Day Sparked

So this week is my week at my sister's house ( I watch her youngest) so I won't be on here as much but I can tell you that I have written things in advance and they will post themselves, I will be checking too. Wednesday I will be doing a Pink Wednesday post but I won't have access to my own polish so it will be "borrowed" aka my sisters. I will try to post NOTD's this week as well but like I said I can't guarantee anything. I am also looking for a job, I need money for this nail addiction.
What I did
For today I have my own polish on (lol). I put regular tips on all of my fingers except my ring finger. Then on the fingers with the tips I applied a thin black line. On my ring finger I put a "graident" of purple and blue sparkles on top of the purple.

What I used.
-One coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat
-2 Coats of Finger Paints Lavender Highlight (review to come)
-LA Colors Art Deco in Black.
-Sinful Colors in Frenzy
-2 Coats of INM Northern Lights (Not Shaken up)

Well that is it for today. Thanks for reading.

How I care for my nails/hands.

I am fairly new to all this stuff, Well a year now but I started really getting into it around November 2010. I started caring for my nails in April maybe even a little later.

Moisturizing
First off I must say moisture is number one in caring for you hands and nails.
Lotion is my best friend and should be yours too. I prefer lotion with SPF in it because not only does it protect your hands from the sun but SPF is great for keeping the skin looking younger. Plus some SPF lotions make your hands look a lot healthier in photographs.
E-Cream is a great way to get all the vitamin E you need. I will use this when I haven't used lotion all day or the cold has made my hands rough or dehydrated.
Solarbalm from Creative Nail Design is another great product. However I don't like how the texture it feels against my hands. I try to use this as less as possible because it is sadly discontinued.
Sometimes I will put lotion on and then I will put gloves on to keep the moisture in. I also suggest putting lotion on after washing hands, hand sanitizer even though I recommend not using those as much, showers, and dishes.

Cuticle care
I use Gel Cuticle Remover from Sally Hansen. I apply this to each of my nails then I will go back in and push all of my cuticles up. After those two steps are done I will go back and clean my nails with a nail brush but an old tooth brush will work too. You can get Gel Cuticle Remover for around $5
If I have any scraggly cuticle skin left I will remove it with a metal cuticle trimmer but they aren't cutters. If their is still any left I will go back in with the gel.
J.R. Watkins Lavender Hand and Cuticle Salve is my favorite so far. I will put this on if I don't want to deal with any of the other steps. This stuff is amazing and I really need to look into the full size. Maybe a different sent like Lemon. My sister gave me this so I am not sure of the price but I know it can be found at Kroger, Fred Meyer, and I want to say ShopKo.

Extras
When cutting my nails I make sure my nails are weaker than normal by showering or soaking your hands in water infused with oils.
I never I repeat I never file my nails back and forth up and down and up. File in ONE direction only. Otherwise you run the chance of breakage or something else.
Once a week I love to buff my nails. After this my nails are naturally shiny but not only are they shiny they make nail polish stick a lot longer. Also if you see some peeling or what appears to be cuticle don't rip or mess with it just buff your nails and it should be fine.
I use a miracle growth serum that makes your nails grow within 5 to 7 days. I don't believe the hype but I use it because it moisturizes my nails perfectly.
I will use a pair of tweezers to kind of cut extra skin that doesn't need to be around my nails.
A moisturizing base coat is a must. Then I top with a strengthening top coat.
I make sure that my nails are clean whenever putting a new manicure or anything for that matter on my nail. I use a pointed q-tip to clean my cuticle area.

I am very careful on my nails and I would even suggest taking biotin or hair and nails pills. Those might help with strengthening your nails. I thought I would tell you what I do to my nails to make them look semi good. I used to be an avid nail biter so I used to have the worst nails in the world.
These are just tips tell me if you try anything I have listed or what you do.

I entered a contest it would mean the world to me if you could go check it out and LIKE my photo. You have to like NailNation on Facebook and then LIKE/Comment my photo. Thank you very much <3 It means the world to me.

Nail of the Day Monochromatic Memories

This is what I am wearing on my nails today. I am testing out the new polish that I got from Ulta the other day. So far so good *edit 8/20/11 still good*
I decided to do an "ombre" style of nail.

What I did
On 4 out of 5 of my nails are just a flat color. On my middle fingers I painted it white and added dots, Yes dots again, in each of the different colors. It kind of made it look like it was fading and the dots kind of smeared giving it the illusion of a fade.

What I used
Thumb- Hot Topic No Name :(
Index- Sally's Girl Surfs Up
Middle- Wet N' Wild French White Creme
Ring- China Glaze For Audrey
Pinkie- Essence You Belong To Me

Another Teeny Haul

Shopping for a swap with Nail Behaviors (youtube her you will love her) Karly, I came across a couple of things I wanted myself so I indulged a little.
I was browsing Ulta because I had to return a gift I was getting for Karly because she had previously gotten from another swap. I saw these new polishes from Essence and I figured why not try it for $1, you can't beat the price.
Then I went to the Dollar Store to see if they had anything good and they didn't sadly. However there is a Big Lots right next to my Dollar Store, I would have loved to get some of the $2 duo nail polish packs from Revlon but passed it up. Maybe at the end of this week :D They had these pointed and flattened q-tips, I figured these would be great for nail clean up. I bought them for $.80 each and I got three.
I also picked up a Sally Hansen Gel Cuticle Remover from ShopKo around two weeks ago. Whoops I forgot to put it in my last haul Shrugs... Oh well. This was $4.99.
Next up is an EOS chap stick in Lemon Drop that my friend Andrea sent me in the mail. OHHH my first package... I wonder what I will send her back! Rubs imaginary goatee...  I will get you Andrea you and your cute little doggies.

Nail of the Day Dainty Dots.

Today was just one of those days that I just really didn't want to do anything with my nails. I am not sure why this happened. I guess I am just in a slump.
I really wanted to get out of this slump so I painted my nails with Finger Paints Art Nouv-Yellow. Yes YELLOW. Why? Well it just so happens that yellow is one of my favorite colors and it simply makes me happy.

I just recently reviewed this polish which I will post below because I have yet to find out how to hyperlink? I believe that is the word I am look for. Shrugs...

What I did.
With a tooth pick I took an opposing color in this case purple and I dotted little dots on the bottom corner away from the thumb and on the thumb facing the opposing way.

What I used
Beauty Secrets Base Coat
4 Yes 4... Coats of Finger Paints Art Nouv-Yellow. Could have used one more coat.
Ulta Professions Nail Polish in Downtown Diva (Me lol just kidding)
INM Northern Lights (not shaken up)

Like my new watermark? Thanks for reading <3

Finger Paints Art Nouv-Yellow

Something about summer and yellow nail polishes. This is my second yellow added to my collection and I am sure there will be a lot more once the fall season starts (sales and such).

I got Art Nouv-Yellow when Sally's was having their buy three Finger Paints, get one free. I knew I had to have it. I saw it on the display and it was the first one I picked up. Absolute joy.
Art Nouv-Yellow is a very vibrant but muted yellow, it also has a very light silver sheen to it. The formula isn't too thick like some yellows. This polish is sheer so I advise putting a white base before painting your nails, or you will end up with patches and uneven parts in the polish. This is 4 coats sadly and even then I am still a tad bit patchy. Sigh...

NOTE yellow polish has a very likely to bubble. I suggest waiting 5 minutes before applying another coat.
Finger Paints can be found at Sally's or www.FingerPaints.com for around $5-$6. I love how their polishes are usually named after art, just found that to be a cute little quirk.

On Wednesday's We Wear Pink

Jumping on the train of Pink Wednesday!!! This will make me blog more often at least on Wednesdays :P I even signed the page :D

For this Pink Wednesday I decided to do little dots of different pinks. I used the ends of each brush to create the dots. With OPI this is really hard ha ha, so I just used a corner of the OPI Brush. I didn't go all the way up my nail. I think the exposed nail looks just fine. I couldn't imagine going all the way with this.

I used
Beauty Secrets Base Coat
OPI's Argenteeny Pinkini
Finger Paints in Rose Patina
Orly Pink Whisper
Sally Girl in Curfew
Sally Girl in Way Cool
INM Northern Lights Non-shaken

The different colors of pinks really makes my nails stand out. I love the neons and the muted pinks so this is the best of both worlds.

I am really glad that I have something to look forward to every Wednesday, maybe I will write a schedule of things to do each day. Swatch/Review Saturday, Makeover Mondays, Testing Tuesday, Pink Wednesday, Hahahah I have no idea where this is going. Maybe you can help me.

Nail of the Day Cyberistic

I felt like doing something really out there. Something I haven't done before. This is really out there for me :D

I warn you that around my cuticle area is a bit messy.

I used:
One coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat.
Three coats of Essence Lime Up!
One coat INM Northern Lights Top Coat.
One side swipe of LA Splash Broken Heart'd.
One coat of INM Northern Lights Top Coat.

I really like this manicure. I am sorry I am positing so late usually I am on top of it, I guess not today :(

Essence Lime Up!

Only recently were Idahoans blessed with an Ulta so before we had one I never got the chance to test out any Essence polishes. These polishes are available on Ulta.com and in Ulta stores. The polishes run $1 for .16fl. oz.

Lime Up! is a very vibrant yellow based "lime" green. It is a cream finish which is one of my favorites. These polishes come with a flat style brush. Some flat styled brushes are too wide for people but with this one it fits just right. These polishes claim to be quick drying and opaque in one coat. With this polish you actually need two to three coats and even then it is a bit streaky, however the coats do dry pretty fast.
The staying power for this polish is neither here nor there. It will stay on for longer than a day but it didn't last longer than 3 to 4 days. I also noticed that when it started to chip off it would come off in big pieces rather than small flakes.

Overall I will give this polish a 3.5/5 because the fact that it did take so long to get the polish opaque and how badly it chipped in such a short time.

Thanks for reading my first "real" polish review.
